The Learning Department offers a special range of Worksheet Trails for visiting schools, which draws on the expertise of our own staff whilst allowing you the chance for you to explore the Cathedral with your pupils at your own pace. Suitable for Key Stage 2 and 3, each trail starts with a 30 minute introduction from the Learning Team before you lead your pupils around the Cathedral, completing their worksheet as they go. Accompanying teachers notes and a sample copy of the worksheet are available for schools ahead of their visit.

Most schools combine a Worksheet Trail with one of our Workshops - contact the Learning Department on [email protected] to find out more.

RE themed Worksheet Trail

Available in differentiated formats for Year 3 & 4, Year 5 & 6, and Year 7 & 8, this activity allows pupils to explore and learning about key parts of Christian belief through exploring different parts of the building. The activity starts with an introduction from one of the Learning Team, who explain the story of St Alban and the history of the Cathedral. Led by their own class teachers, pupils then explore the building with their worksheets, visiting the font, an altar, the Nave and the Shrine of St Alban as they learn about baptism and communion along the way.

The story of St Alban worksheet trails

Suitable for Key Stage 2 pupils, this activity teaches pupils about the story of St Alban, whilst allowing them to explore the Cathedral building to find out more for themselves. The trail starts with a 30 minute introduction from the Learning Team, during which pupils learn about the world in which Alban lived, and have the opportunity to try on and handle some Roman armour and weapons too! Led by their own class teachers, the pupils then explore different parts of the Cathedral, including the Nave and the Shrine of St Alban, as they use stained glass windows and medieval wall paintings to learn more about the life of St Alban and how he is remembered today.
