When | Thursday 25 July, 4.30pm - c.6pm Where | Cathedral Library (in-person only) Cost | £6 Tutor | Isabelle Lepore, Adult Learning Officer Palaeography, the study of old handwriting, is a skill that most history and archaeology departments will use to decipher evidence. This beginners’ workshop is designed to help students to work with medieval manuscripts and legal documents. Alongside the practical training (transcription and the physical features of manuscripts, charters and letters), the session will introduce the history of a select number of scripts and their intellectual contexts during the medieval period. About Isabelle Lepore Our Adult Learning Officer, Isabelle, studied Palaeography at the University of Durham, where she completed a Master of Arts degree in Medieval and Early Modern Studies. Isabelle has previously lectured at the International Medieval Congress on the importance of historic documents as a means of understanding social practices and medieval performance.
