Palaeography, the study of old handwriting, is a skill that most history and archaeology departments will use to decipher evidence. This beginners’ workshop is designed to help students to work with medieval manuscripts and legal documents. Alongside the practical training (transcription and the physical features of manuscripts, charters and letters), the session will introduce the history of a select number of scripts and their intellectual contexts during the medieval period.
