Better Together St Albans Cathedral is delighted to congratulate Councillor Matt Fisher on his appointment as Mayor of the City and District of St Albans for 2026/27, and Councillor Juliet Voisey on becoming Deputy Mayor. The Cathedral is also pleased that Fr Will, Canon for Mission and Pastoral Care, will serve as the Mayor's Chaplain during the Mayor's year of office. Mayor Fisher succeeds Councillor Teresa Heritage and becomes the City's 482nd Mayor, continuing a civic tradition that dates back to 1553. As Mayor, he will chair Full Council meetings and represent the City and District at a wide range of civic and community events throughout the coming year. A District Councillor for Clarence ward since 2023, Mayor Fisher has chosen "Belonging Through Service" as the theme for his mayoral year, reflecting his belief that volunteering and environmental action can help build stronger, more connected communities. He has also selected Youth Talk and St Albans Sea Cadets as his mayoral charities. Fr Will said: "I am delighted to have been asked to serve as Matt's Chaplain for his mayoral year and look forward to working closely with him and helping to promote his theme of Belonging Through Service. The Mayor's commitment to volunteering, community engagement and service to others reflects values that are deeply important to the Cathedral, and I look forward to supporting him throughout the year."
