Home Groups allow members of the congregation to study parts of the Bible or elements of the Christian faith in a relaxed and informal setting. 

All these Groups are supported by the Cathedral clergy.  This support includes attending Group meetings when invited; bi-annual meetings with the leaders; on an on-going basis, assisting with questions that occasionally arise within a Group; and an annual summer get together, to date BBQs.

 

The groups choose their own topics to discuss and are supported by the Cathedral clergy with occasional visits and teaching. They meet throughout the year in the informal setting of individuals’ homes or a room at the Cathedral and each group has anything between four to twelve members. 

There are currently 10 Home Groups all meeting within St Albans. 

Each Group chooses the topic and material it is going to use; but all topics and material do relate to the Bible and Christian faith.  The Groups vary in size, with usually four to twelve people attending.  A couple of Groups also will have people attending via zoom where the need arises.  Some Groups meet in the morning, some in the afternoon and some in the evening; weekly, fortnightly or monthly.  

The Home Groups all recognise their key benefits include:

• A comfortable environment in which to get to know other members of the congregation;
• Spiritual growth with the opportunity to discuss the Scriptures;
• The discipline of regular in depth Bible study;
• Fun and mutual support.

The principles all members of the Home Groups seek to follow are:

• We are all on a journey and nobody knows all the answers;
• We respect each other’s views;
• We express our own opinions with generosity and gentleness;
• We give space for all to share their thoughts or remain silent, as each individual chooses;
• We respect the confidentiality of any personal information that is shared.
